Wireless Networks and Insight

While Insight has been designed to work well in environments where the Teachers and Students are going to be connected via wireless networks, there are some concerns that may need to be addressed to ensure that Teachers and Students both have a good user experience when using the product in this type of environment.

Type of Wireless Environment

While most currently available wireless devices will provide adequate support for browsing and media consumption, enterprise-grade wireless networks will generally provide more reliable performance when working with larger deployments and will provide greater ability for administrators to tune the network to avoid problems from interference in the area.

While Faronics recommends the use of enterprise-grade wireless equipment, we do not recommend specific vendors or access points.

Wireless Standards and Transmission Rates

Given the performance capabilities of various wireless standards, Faronics recommends that customers use wireless hardware capable of at least 802.11n (Wi-Fi 4) transmission rates. Better performance will be found when using access points capable of 802.11ac, or 802.11ax transmission rates (Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 6 respectively).

Faronics does not recommend using wireless networks that predate the 802.11n standard.

AP Isolation / Client Isolation

In some cases, wireless networks may be configured to isolate individual clients as if they are connected to their own wireless network. In these cases, the Student client may not be able to detect an active Teacher console and may require the use of an Insight Connector to allow them to communicate with the Teacher console.
